5.2.12 - Pengkalan Balak Beach

We wanted to go to Tg. Bidara beach, but the sign led us to Terendak Camp, so we made a U-turn and went to Pengkalan Balak Beach in Masjid Tanah. It was about 35 km from Melaka town, but it took us an hour, as it we had to drive through the countryside.
Of all the places, they love the beach the most. Maybe it's because it's a sensory activity and they can be hands-on when they play with sand and water. They were in a world of their own,  pretending they were operating an excavator, dump truck, bulldozer, etc. Never mind that the excavator has lost its wheels years ago and the toy vehicles are not battery operated.

The beach sand is dark brown and quite rough
The Banana Boat ride. When the rider on the jetski wants to bring the people back , he would make a sharp turn as he approaches the beach and they all fall into the water.

When I first saw this 'pacat' (leech) on the sand, wriggling and writhing, I thought I was just imagining and that it was just a worm. I didn't know that they can also be found at the beach, which has salty water. I thought leech were afraid of salt or would die if they touched salt. Our doubts were confirmed when we soon found another 3 more - hubby found one on his shirt, and I found one on the mat we were sitting on. They must have come from the tree were were sitting under.

23.12.11 - Port Dickson beach

At 9.30 am in the morning, we went to the Port Dickson beach nearby Palm Springs apartment. We drove along the narrow road right to the "dead end". It was quite secluded there and it was only us and 2 other men fishing. The stones and the seashells here were very unique, unlike other beaches that we went. We collected many shells and some stones. There were also some small mudskippers moving about in the mud.

5.11.11 - Tanjung Bidara Beach Melaka

We went to the beach.just across the Turtle Management and Conservation centre. We had brought our picnic lunch along. The sand here was medium brown, more like mud / earth colour. It was nice sitting by the beach with the wind blowing.

They boys pretended they were turtles and dug a hole to lay eggs.
'Eggs' inside the hole. Then they buried it up.

We had brought our picnic lunch (fried noodles) along. Another family near us were cooking their lunch on a small charcoal grill. We left after 2 hours there.

4.8.11: Tanjung Bungah Beach Penang

Early in the morning and in the evening, we went to the private beach that was attached to Corpthorne Orchid Hotel in Tanjung Bungah. It got hot quite early there as there wasn't much shade.

There were some small crabs scuttling in and out of their holes. The boys observed that the crab walked sideways.

These are another 2 more pictures of Tanjung Bungah Beach. They were taken from the Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel, which we visited. The beach is so long and there is more shade.

Where's the Klebang Beach?

I brought the kids to Klebang Beach the other day. The last time we were there was when S was less than a year old. We were surprised that the beach wasn't there anymore. I thought that I was a different place, but I recognised the playground structures, so it had to be the correct place.

What happened was that the beach was reclaimed to build Melaka Gold Coast. There was a road leading into the reclaimed area, formerly the sea. There were a few cars there and just a handful of people standing and looking at the sea. We drove in, parked our car there and alighted. I wanted to get the boys to play under the sunlight, in order to strengthen their immune system as S had a persistent cough. However, the sky was cloudy.

Making sandcastles

I tried making an octopus from the sand, but S kept "smashing" it up for fun and so I gave up. He wanted to make a racetrack. We later on removed our slippers and stood on the sand to "connect" to the earth and absorb the "qi" from the sand. E, who earlier on wouldn't remove his shoes and socks joined in barefooted. Then they went stomping on the sand, leaving their footprints in the sand. Just as we were about the leave the place, the sun came out.
