21.2.12 - FRIM waterfall

S loved the waterfall area and insisted that we head there after we had completed our leaf and bark rubbing. He didn't want to join the other kids at the lower part of the waterfall and preferred this sandy area. This is a wonderful place with sand and water and the boys have been here several times, since we found out about this place over a year ago.

S did his own experiment to test which is heavier. Bucket on the left is filled with water, leaves & twigs. Bucket on the right is filled with sand and water. Verdict: Bucket on the right is heavier.

1.1.12 - To the waterfall again

It was the New Year's Day and we decided to go to the Sg. Kroh waterfall in FRIM, Kepong. Entrance fee is RM5 for car and driver and every additional adult is RM1. On the way in, we stopped by a small playground.

When we reached the waterfall area, we were surprised to find the whole place inundated with water. The landscape had changed again. It was surprising as it hadn't rain in the past few days. 

We had to wade through the ankle length high water to get to the grassy area. 

The boys were busy trying to plug the gaps in the well / (dam?). It didn't work. 

On the way back, we spotted this strange furry white creature moving about. We think it is a spider. 

20.11.11 - Waterfall in FRIM

We had initially planned to go outstation but changed our plans and decided to stay back. We went to Sg. Kroh waterfall in FRIM and met up with a new friend and her two young children. Although it was the school holidays, the number of people there weren't too many and we still had a lot of space to ourselves.

The boys decided to make a dam across the water. They went ahead to gather small rocks to put across the water. At first S took the rocks by hand. He said he could carry 4 rocks, 2 in each hand. Then he later had the idea to put the rocks in his bucket, and could carry more. The bucket was heavy but the carried it themselves. It was hard physical work, but they didn't complain and enjoyed the process.

11.6.11: World Environment Day Jungle Trekking

We went jungle trekking in conjunction with the World Environment Day in FRIM. There was a guided nature walk and we signed up for the 1 pm session. We walked through the Keruing Trail. We saw a number of animals and insects there.

This leaf has a smell like garlic. I kept this leaf and put it in the car and afterwards the car stank of pungent garlic.

This tree is called "Simpuh Gajah" because it looks like an elephant trunk.

To find out if it's going to rain, listen to the cicadas. If they are quiet, it's going to rain.

This tree was chopped down several weeks earlier as it was struck by lightning. 

After the walk, we went to the museum nearby and the boys remembered the paper mill they saw there the last time there were there. It was now in a glass case and had buttons for lights. 

After the museum, we went to the Sg. Kroh waterfall. This was our third time there. This time, there was less water and the landscaped seems to change each time we went there. 

Waterfall in FRIM

We went to visit Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in Kepong on 14 November 2010. We decided to visit it more often, since it was not too far away from our place. The last time I was there was in 1996 when hubby (my bf back then) and I organised a 3D/2N children camp in FRIM at the Nature Education Centre.

FRIM was a nice place to be as we could hear the sounds of the forest. We went to the picnic area. Opposite the picnic area was Sg. Kroh Waterfall. I hadn't been to the waterfall and didn't know what to expect. I was expecting to go for a jungle trek, but we suddenly came to the picnic area and waterfall. Although I had packed a change of clothes and a towel, I had forgotten to bring along their swimming trunks.

The waterfall was nice place for children, if they come supervised. There was a shallow pool where the children could wade in. There were tiny tadpoles in the water.

We climbed to a higher rocky area that was above the pool. The rocks were quite slippery. I took a picture of hubby and the boys. I held S' hand in my right hand. Then, as I started to turn back, I felt something beneath my right foot. At first I thought it was a leech. As I turned my foot to look at it, I saw a green frog (I presumed dead) with blood on it stuck to my feet. I got a shock of my life, and spontaneously tried to kick the frog off from my leg, but it didn't dislodge itself. Then, I swung my leg harder and plop, S and I fell into the water. So much for me not wanting to get my clothes wet. Luckily, my camera was safely round my neck, otherwise, it would have been the end of it. We went back down by another safer way - walking barefooted on the ground.
