I had bought this book at Big Bad Wolf sale last year. It came with press out boards for the children to affix and play. The boys played for awhile, then got frustrated because some parts were too loose and kept falling off. We had to affix it with glue.

21.12.2011 - Mr Archimedes' Bath
We read a book entitled "
Mr Archimedes' Bath" about Mr Archimedes who sat inside bathtub of water and found that the water rose. The animals who joined him in the bath all kept blaming each other for causing the water level to rise.
After reading the book, I asked S, how come the water rose inside the bath. He thought for awhile and said, "When you are sitting in the water, you are using the space of the water. The water will squash together, so it will go up." This was not directly explained in the storybook, so, I could see that he understood the concept.
The book was simple and did not mention about the Archimedes principle, by the ancient Greek scholar Archimedes.
"Archimedes reportedly proclaimed "Eureka!" when he stepped into a bath and noticed that the water level rose - he suddenly understood that the volume of water displaced must be equal to the volume of the part of his body he had submerged. This relation is known as Archimedes' principle."

21.10.11 - Goldilocks and the three bears finger puppets
The boys played with their new finger puppets - Goldilocks and the Three Bears, that I bought from the recent BBW sale at RM8.
24.5.11: Hi-5 audio book
During the recent Big Bookstore sale, I bought several Hi-5 audio books which were on the "ancient" cassette tapes. My cassette player wasn't working, so I used this walkman instead. I taught the boys how to press play (the triangle button) and stop (the square button). They learnt very fast how to operate the walkman.
21.5.11: Tyrannosaur book
E is fascinated with dinosaurs. He can recognise and name some of the dinosaurs. I got him this book on tyrannosaur from Popular book store at IPC. It's a discounted rate of RM29.90. Normal price: RM74.90.
It comes with a dinosour model that you can assemble.
20.5.11: Micro Cars
6.12.10: Microfliers
6 December 2010
I got a book on Microfliers for him, which could be assembled and launched. It even came with a launcher and a putty, but we didn't use that. We assembled the fliers. It was lightweight and can fly quite nicely.
He is matching the microflier to the pictures in the booklet , and asks me to read their names and description. |
Book sale
Yesterday, I went to the Sun@Mag book sale at e@Curve, The Curve yesterday and came back with a load of books. This is the second year that I've gone for this sale. I also bought many books last year. They have many good quality storybooks and workbooks for young children at cheap prices. I got the whole series of Winnie-the-Pooh books @ RM3 each. However, there were not many people who were aware of this sale as it was at an isolated place.
Bookstore
We went to Borders bookstore at The Curve yesterday. The kids like to read books about trucks. I initially wanted to bring them to the children's library at TTDI. I went to check the library out, but I found the books not so suitable for them yet. There were not many toddler books. There were more books for older children. In comparison, our home library had more interesting and newer books. There was a certain "library smell" about the place, which brought me back to my university days, when I used to visit the library. The library required everyone to be silent. At this age, the library would still not be a conducive place for them to go as they are unable to keep quiet for a certain period of time. Perhaps, when they are older.
| Matching the wheels to the trucks - he got all correct! |
Some time ago, I purchased some children VCDs at Borders. It was priced at RM5.00. Normal price: RM14.90. I felt that that was quite a good purchase. If I'm lucky, I can get some children VCDs during the Borders' buy 1 free 1 promotion.
