Fire Truck Costume

I made this fire truck costume for S in November 2009.

Inspiration came at the spur of the moment, after thinking of how to recycle old materials at home. I only went out to purchase foam and hot glue gun and glue gun sticks. It took a couple of hours to complete.

Items required to make this:
  1. Corrugated cardboard box
  2. Foam - red colour
  3. Old CDs
  4. Broad elastic garter
  5. Sponge
  6. Various coloured cardboard / coloured paper
  7. Small transparent jelly container for the siren
  8. Small tube for the hose
  9. Scissors
  10. Pen knife
  11. Hot glue gun
  12. Masking tape
Instructions:
  • Tape all sides of the box together with masking tape.
  • Cutting a square / rectangular hole at the top and bottom part of the box nicely fitting the child's size.
  • Glue red coloured foam all around.
  • Cut out the windows, ladder and other decorations for the fire truck.
  • Fix the hose and glue the wheels.
  • Finally, make 4 holes and attach the elastic garter and adjust it according to the child's height.

  1. You are my hero. My son wants to be a fire truck for Halloween, and I couldn't figure out what to do about the wheels, since i didn't just want to paint paper plates black, but also didn't want to have to figure out how to attach real wheels. We have a ton of CDs at home. Thanks!
